Helping You Look & Feel Your Best in Front of the Camera!

Raíces y Flores is about honoring our roots and the beauty that blooms from them. While spring often feels light and airy, these Mother’s Day sessions are designed to pull from a richer, more intentional palette that celebrates your family’s unique history and connection. Whether you are leaning into classic elegance, a touch of romance, or a relaxed, timeless look, here are some tips to help you choose an outfit that complements our set and makes your photos shine.

A quick note before you dive in: These are simply suggestions to help you navigate our color story. Most importantly, I want you and your loved ones to show up feeling like your truest, most confident selves!

Color palette inspiration

Mother’s Day is the perfect time to embrace:

  • Soft Pastels: Think blush, sage, and dusty lavender. These melt right into the floral installments for a dreamy, high-end look.

  • Earthy Neutrals: Cream, beige, and taupe. These pull from the brown bench and help keep that grounded, 'Roots' feel.

  • Pops of Color: Soft yellow, coral, or muted apricot. A beautiful way to add a bit of 'whimsy' that still feels editorial.

  • Classic Off-Whites: Stick to ivories and vanillas for a timeless touch. Since our draping is a soft cream, these keep the warmth in your gallery without looking blue.

  • Avoid True Whites: Since our backdrop is a soft cream/off-white draping, true "stark" white clothing can sometimes look blue or gray by comparison. Opt for creams, ivories, or vanillas to keep that "buttery" warmth in your gallery.

  • Coordinate, Don’t Match: Instead of everyone wearing the exact same color, try a "mix and match" approach within one of the palettes. For example: Mom in a flowy sage dress, and the kids or grandma in oatmeal and dusty pink. This adds so much depth and looks beautiful for those three-generation portraits!

  • Textures over Prints: Our floral setup by Gracefulblooms is very detailed, so I recommend avoiding busy patterns like small multiple strips or heavy logos. Instead, look for textures like linen, silk, or subtle floral embroidery that mimics our "Raíces y Flores" theme.

  • Footwear & Details: Since we are planning have the bench and draping involved, barefoot can look very "fine art" and whimsical for the children. For the mamas and grandmas, a neutral leather sandal or a simple nude heel is the perfect way to keep it polished yet organic.

Final Tips for those with little ones

  • The "Car Nap" Rule: Some toddlers tend to take naps during car rides. If this sounds like your child, I highly recommend arriving 30 minutes earlier so your kids can be fully awake before we start. The reason I bring this up is because the majority of toddlers after waking up look sad and confused throughout the session.

  • The Performance Pressure: Bribery is not always necessary to get your child to cooperate, although a little incentive doesn’t hurt! Promise them beforehand that they are going to have a great time (I’m a fun photographer!) and getting their pictures taken will be a blast. An incentive of a treat or fun event after their session may help, but they don’t need to “perform” for me… it is my job to make this fun for everyone!

  • The "Spotter" Strategy: Some babies and children may be more comfortable without a parent watching. Feel free to step out of their view and watch from a distance (this also gets them to look at the camera and not off to the side!). For any shots with props or a young baby, we will of course have a parent “spot” for safety.

  • Focusing on the Subject: Please do not bring any children that are not being photographed to the session so we can keep the focus on the moments we're capturing.

Hygiene & Treats

  • Clean & Fresh: Make sure hair is combed and faces are clean and free of runny noses or eyes.

  • The "Red & Orange" : Avoid eating or drinking red or orange food or drinks before the session. Red and orange dyes tend to leave a stubborn stain on the face that is very hard to edit out!

I am so excited to capture the legacy of motherhood for you !
